After finally discovering Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock just over a year ago, we've looked forward to new episodes. Season 4 opened on January 1st with an episode that pleased but which, for some, ended with a complete, outrageous shock.
What I liked about the episode:
It was quintessential Cumberbatch Sherlock—fast, funny, smart, witty, charming, with great cast chemistry, great acting, and a mystery that unfolded at a nice Sherlocky pace.
What I didn't like about the episode:
Moriarty. Seriously. He had absolute no part in this episode, but the lead-in gave a strong impression he would. And technically, he should have. After all, the last two episodes ended with the mystery of his sudden and apparent resurrection (Miss Me? Why no, crazy man, I don't.)
More Sherlock, less Moriarty.
Oh, and if you read the Sherlock stories, the end of The Six Thachers would not have been a surprise. It would have been sad, but not a surprise.
